Wordpress security

I have just come across an excellent article over at six revisions – 12 Essential security tips and hacks for wordpress, I shall be putting some of these ideas into practice on my blogs from now on.

I have been on the receiving end of a hacker who gained access to my server before and believe me it is a very stressfull experience, especially if your lively-hood depends on your sites being under your control and accessible to visitors.

Some things I now do :

1. Make sure you are backing up your sites regulary and keeping copies of your blog and the database on CD/DVD

2. Use different passwords for everything; your email, domain registrar, ftp accounts etc.

3. Keep your domains locked to the registrar and make sure the password is as random as possible.

4. Update all scripts that aren’t unique, ie blog software, forums etc as soon as possible.

5. Remove all script footprints, ie version numbers and links back to the scripts developer – pay to do this if required.

Just a few tips for you – all common sense really!
