Your own url shortener for your blog
Posted on 28. Jul, 2009 by admin in Blogging
It’s a good idea to promote your blog posts on twitter, it allows you to instantly get some people to the blog post – quicker even than RSS plus you get the bonus of retweets if your content is good enough. We allready looked at a number of plugins for wordpress to utilize Twitter but there is a problem with these and they post your link using a range of URL shorteners so you get the traffic but no SEO benefit as your link is redirected.
By installing your own URL shortener on your domain you get links to your blog’s domain as well the traffic.
I was searching for a solution for this and found Yoururls.
First off you install the URL shortening script as you would Wordpress – create a database, add a user, then upload the Yoururls files and edit into the config file with your database details.
Once that’s up and running, you can download a Wordpress plugin from the site, enter in your Yoururls installation details and it will automatically post shortened urls using your domain to Twitter.
